Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has recounted a surprising encounter with Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, during a visit to his residence that initially raised suspicions.
Speaking during a recent podcast with KAA Truths, Charly Boy disclosed that Obi arrived at his home carrying a large ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag, which made him briefly think the former Anambra State governor intended to offer him a bribe.
According to the entertainer, he was shocked when he noticed the sizeable travel bag placed near his door and began to wonder about its contents. He explained that the sight of the bag made him suspicious despite his admiration for Obi’s political ideology and personality.
Charly Boy stated that he later realised his fears were unfounded when Obi eventually revealed that the bag contained kola nuts and garden eggs, which were presented as part of a traditional gesture.
The activist noted that the visit evolved into a broader discussion about Nigeria’s challenges and possible solutions, adding that the former governor did not attempt to influence him improperly.
He said the moment Obi unveiled the contents of the bag amused him and further strengthened his respect for the former presidential candidate, describing the gesture as thoughtful and culturally grounded.
Charly Boy concluded that the experience left a lasting impression on him and deepened his admiration for Obi’s character and approach.
